Privacy & Cookies

Privacy & cookies

This policy explains, in plain English, what data is collected when you visit the-band.co.uk and the choices you have. The short version: we use a little analytics to see which pages people enjoy, and that only runs if you agree to it.

Who runs this site

the-band.co.uk is an independent fan archive run by an individual, not a company, and is not affiliated with The Band, their estates or their record labels. For any privacy question or request, email hello@the-band.co.uk.

Analytics & your consent

We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which pages are popular and how people find the site. It's used only for aggregate statistics — we're not trying to identify you, we don't sell your data, and we don't use it for cross-site advertising.

Analytics is off by default. Using Google's Consent Mode, no analytics cookies or storage are allowed until you choose Accept on the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you choose Reject, no analytics cookies are set and Google Analytics does not record your visit. You can change your choice at any time:

Cookies that may be used

  • tb_consent (set by this site) — remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics, so we don't ask on every page. It holds only the word “granted” or “denied,” lasts 12 months, and is essential to making the consent choice work.
  • Google Analytics (e.g. _ga, _ga_…) — set only after you click Accept. They help count visits and measure which pages are read, and typically last up to two years. These are set via Google; Google's own privacy policy applies.
  • YouTube — video clips use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode and only load after you click play. Until then, no contact is made with YouTube. Once you play a clip, YouTube may set its own cookies and its privacy policy applies.
  • Affiliate partners (Amazon, eBay) — if you click a marked affiliate link, the retailer may set a cookie to attribute a purchase. See the affiliate disclosure.
  • Cloudflare (our host) — may set a strictly-necessary security cookie to protect the site. It isn't used for tracking.

Web fonts & hosting logs

Fonts are served by Adobe Fonts and Google Fonts, which may log the request (including your IP address) in order to deliver the font files. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs — such as IP address and pages requested — for security and basic, aggregate traffic statistics.

Legal basis (UK GDPR & PECR)

Analytics cookies are used only with your consent, which you give through the banner and can withdraw at any time using Cookie settings above. The consent cookie itself and essential security logging rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights including access to, correction of, and deletion of your personal data, and the right to object. Because the site only ever sees aggregate analytics and server logs, we generally hold nothing that identifies you personally — but if you have a question or request, email hello@the-band.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

How to control cookies

Use Cookie settings above to change your analytics choice, or clear and block cookies in your browser at any time — the site will still work. You can also install Google's official Analytics opt-out add-on.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site uses data, we'll update this page and the “last updated” date above.

This is a small independent fan site and this notice is provided in good faith; it isn't legal advice.
